What Is BYOD?

Bring your own device (BOYD) is a new concept whereby employers permit their employees to bring personally owned mobile devices (laptops, tablets & smart phones) to work and use them on the company's network to access resources and perform work.

This is a trend is gaining momentum.

In India70% of of smart phone owners who are professionals use their personal devices to access corporate date.

Three things are driving BYOD, the simplicity of use and the availability of content.

According to a CISCO survey overall, BYOD tends to be a more popular trend in Asia, Latin America and the U.S., while Europe tends to be more restrictive toward it. 95% of organizations allow employee-owned devices in some way, shape or form in the workplace. The U.S. is the overall leader in BYOD adoption and policy, but it shares first place with India in desktop virtualization. 69% of IT leaders globally think the benefits of BYOD are positive

The implementation of BYOD requires the use of BYOD management tools and having a BYOD Plan.

Advantages:

- Lower IT cost: You don't have to buy devices for your employees. Employees are willing to pay the voice and data cost.

- Morale:  Employees feel better using their own equipment that they are familiar with and like.

- Flexibility:  Makes your biz attractive to prospective employees.

- New Technology: Gain quicker access to new technology because employees are willing to upgrade quickly at their own cost.

- Multiple Devices:  Your IT staff will have to support multiple devices from different manufacturers.

- Training:  user already trained to operate their device

 

Disadvantage:

Security:  The data has to be protected when it is on The employees device. it also has to be removed when The employee leave The company.
