Holidays are days set aside by custom or law to celebrate or commerate cultural or religious significance.  Many holidays have also evolved to become commercial events.  Holidays are a great way to go about promoting your business. 

As a small business you should be conscious of and take advantage of this opportunity to promote your business.  There are many holidays on the federal and state level as well as holidays that are celebrated by individual groups.  Below are some of the holidays that have taken a commercial appeal that you can use to promote and grow your business.

Holiday Promotion Methods

Offer free giftwrapping if purchases above a certain dollar amount is made or if certain specified items are purchased, or if the purchase is made within a specified period of time.
 


Give away one Christmas wish a day for the 12 days leading up to Christmas.
 




Hold photo contest on Facebook and give away gift cards to the winners.
 



Hold random drawings (hourly, every 30 minutes, etc.) to determine who gets their purchase paid for.
 


Offer to give away a certain amount of cash/prepaid Gift card often through the shopping day.

Free shipping is one of the most popular incentives you can offer your customers.  This incentive can be offered in different ways.  It can be offered after the customer puchase above a certain dollar amount; it can be offered if they purchase certain items or shop within a specified timeframe.
 
Coupon Exchange is an approach you can take towards offering coupons to your customers.  You can team up with another small business and agree to offer their coupons in your store in return for them offering your coupons in their store.  When people shop in your store they get a coupon to go next door and get something for free or at a big discount.    Learn more..
 
Also known as Volume Discount.  The Buy Two Get One Free offer is another way to entice people to get something for free or at least make think they're getting something for free.  This is effective if make sure that your cost is covered in the items being purchased.  This method can take on different forms.   "Buy One Get One Free"; "Buy Three Get One Free"; etc.
 
Sports fans like to have free tickets to the game.  To them it's not the cost of the ticket that matters, it's the opportunity to go to the game for free.  Of course, it is best to provide the ticket in pairs so that they can take their buddy or significant other to the game.
