Earlier in
the year (April) Governor Michael Beebe signed the law that
require online retailers to collect sales tax if they have
affiliates in the state. Even though a retailer like
amazon.com does not have a physical presence in the state
they will be required to collect taxes from purchases made
by Arkansas residents that were generated by affiliates in
the states.
In addition
to Arkansas, the states that currently have such laws are
New York, Colorado, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Illinois and
California.
As
they’ve done in other states where such laws were passed
amazon.com and other large online retailers are ending their
relationships with affiliates in California.
