Product packaging/labeling is an important task when it comes to selling a product.  In order to sell a product you have to package it to sell.  The first time a potential customer see your product will be in it's packaging.  Therefore, your packaging has to make a good first impression to draw them in and peak their interest.  But, the your product will never make it to retail shelves if they don't comply with the dimensions and weight requirements of retailers or don't meet labeling guidelines as stiuplated by law.

During the Product Development phase you must consider how your products will be packaged.  Your Product should be packaged so that they can be protected during distribution, storage, sale and use.

Another way to learn about product design is to attend product design packaging tradeshows.  You may want to attend one of these events before choosing a design company to work with.  Many design companies attend these events, hence, it is also a place where you can find a company work with.

You can also ask your manufacturer if they perform package design/labeling services as well as packaging services.  Most manufacturers will also perform this task.  In that case you can work with just one entity to get it all done at less cost.
